Since 1911

A Century of Continuity

Built in 1911 and substantially renovated in 1922, Al Jaamia Masjid has served the Muslim community without interruption. It withstood the forced removals mandated under the Group Areas Act, which scattered Claremont's original Muslim residents across Cape Town.

Today the Masjid brings together descendants of that displaced community with new generations living and working in Claremont, sustaining an unbroken congregational life.
