Al Jaamia Masjid is more than a place of daily prayer — it is the centre of a living, multi-generational community. Descendants of Claremont's original Muslim families, displaced under the Group Areas Act, continue to travel from across Cape Town to worship here, alongside new generations living and working in Claremont today.
Throughout the year, the Masjid hosts programmes for reflection, learning, and service — from Ramadaan outreach to youth gatherings, women's classes, and commemorations that honour those who shaped Al Jaamia's history.
Each Ramadaan, volunteers gather at the Masjid to prepare and distribute hundreds of food parcels to households in Hanover Park, Heideveld, Bonteheuwel, Salt River, Woodstock, Kensington, and Grassy Park — working alongside the Lillah Foundation and the Saabri & Ashrafi Relief Fund.
Overnight i'tikaaf gatherings during the blessed days of Thul Hijjah bring together scholars and musallees for thikr, talks, and Tahajjud — with separate sessions and facilities for men and women.
Al Jaamia regularly commemorates the imaamat and families who sustained the Masjid through decades of change, including As'Shaheed Imam Abdullah Haron and long-serving elders of the Claremont community.
Alongside the afternoon Madrassah, Al Jaamia has hosted Sunday classes and Discover Islam sessions welcoming reverts and newcomers into the fold of the community.
