Al Jaamia Masjid has stood on Stegman Road since 1911, serving as a place of worship, refuge, and communal life through more than a century of change.
Built in 1911 and substantially renovated in 1922, Al Jaamia Masjid — widely known as Stegman Road Masjid — has served the Muslim community without interruption since its founding.
Claremont's Muslim community was among the first forcibly removed under the Group Areas Act and scattered across Cape Town. Despite this, the community's ties to Al Jaamia endured, and many displaced families have continued to travel here to worship.
Today the Masjid brings together descendants of that original community with those now living and working in Claremont and its surrounds.
